Six on Saturday - 6/23/2018

Six things in the garden today, to distract me from the heat and long to do list...
Mangave kaleidoscope approves the mulch matching it's stripes!

Lots of soft plants!

balanced with spiky agave shawii (I think)

Eucalyptus macrocarpa new growth is pretty

Butterfly bush perfuming the patio

These little cacti keep jumping in my cart...

  1. OMG! That Mangave kaleidoscope is gorgeous....well, as is the Agave. Is the mulch in the “jumping cacti” photo from IKEA? I meant to buy some of that. (Last year?)

    1. Yes, it is! I got a bag a few months ago. It's worked fairly well as a cover for a very large number of my small (4") pots for cacti, etc. I just finished the bag - i should either stop buying plants or buy more mulch...

  2. Is the yellow color of the mulch provided by the Palo Verde tree? It makes a very nice accent! I "need" more mangaves but I think I'm going to have to mail order them as all my local garden centers seem to carry is 'Bloodspot'. Do yours get full sun?

    1. yes, its all the old blossoms. We had a good windstorm and they all came off at the same time! I mail order all my mangaves, mostly from Plant Delights! Most of mine get light shade at least part of the day. I have a couple in "full desert sun" right now, and i'm not sure they are very happy about it... They get a bit sunbleached and you see less of the purple spots in full sun, i think.

    1. I saved it from home depot (and removed the stupid pink straw flower). The label said it was gymnocalycium mihanovichii friedrichii; i think the correct name is Gymnocalycium stenopleurum. It will have to come inside for winter...

And yes, i made a new blog header. Mr Ripple was embarrassed by his teenager pictures! He's much bigger now :)
