the palo verde did not do well with the heavy snow. it lost a bunch of branches already... |
the pond did not freeze (and the water is very clear!) |
thankfully it was all gone in about 2 days... |
So very weird to my eyes. I was born and raised in SoCal and can only remember one occasion (when I was in 7th grade as I recall) when it snowed but even then it didn't stick. I know it's colder out your way but this strikes me as extreme. Other than the Palo Verde tree, was there any lasting damage?
ReplyDeleteit was weird! So far, there aren't any signs of lasting damage, but i'm worried about some of the marginal plants coming back. The callistemons have a lot of leaf damage...
DeleteThe only good thing about an unexpected snow is that it acts like a blanket to the accompanying cold temperatures. Hopefully everything recovered.
ReplyDeleteit wasn't even that cold... which i guess is a good thing?
DeleteIt's crazy that you got this much snow. Your photos are so freakish.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! i think the whole day, i was looking outside wondering when it would ever stop!
DeleteThat's some heavy snow...last time here like that was late 2015, the end of December. (as usual here) How cold did you get this winter?
ReplyDeleteIt didn't get really cold at all - maybe 29-30 deg F, and not a lot of wind. Just lots and lots of snow. But it was gone quickly, and i think the ground sucked up all the moisture in about a day!
