Bloom Day: May 2016

Every month, Carol at May Dreams Garden hosts Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. She has quite a few beautiful blooms, and links to gardens from around the world. I gave myself an assignment to go out this morning and find all the flowers in my garden. Here is a look at some of what is blooming in my garden this May:
Salvia microphylla 'Hot Lips' with almost all white flowers
Clematis Jackmanii with mostly 4 petals this year
Rosa 'Blaze' is still blooming
Oenothera speciosa out in mass
Lantana camara Miss Huff, the only one that comes back every year
the yellow form of Hesperaloe parviflora
Parkinsonia x 'Desert Museum'  in the front garden
the blooms on Senna phyllodinea seem to never stop
a tiny Eremophila is pushing out flowers (hopefully it lives!)
Centaurea gymnocarpa flowers match the opuntia next to it
Orange poppies!
Manfreda undulata Chocolate Chips is sending out alien flowers again
Poppies with yellow
Buddleia davidii 'Black Knight' smells amazing
Callistemon citrinus 'Little John' showing off
There is more, because it's spring and, as Carol says, May is when dreams come true. But i'm going to go explore other people's blooms at May Dream Gardens! Happy GBBD!

  1. Oh, you have a yellow Hesperaloe... lucky you! I have a red one, but for some reason, I have been on a yellow kick this spring. I guess maybe I have a need to switch things up a bit... Happy GBBD!

    1. It took me quite some time to find one - i lucked out and got this one at the Huntington botanical garden sale. It's my only one, all the rest (and i have a lot) are the regular red/pink kind. Thanks for visiting!

  2. I love your clematis. It looks a lot like my clematis Blue Pirouette which is supposed to bloom in June. I think it's great to explore gardens around the world, a desert garden, wow! I live in Holland, our climate is mild with lots of rain. Looking forward to seeing more of your garden, so see you next month!

    1. Hello Pauline! Thanks for visiting all the way from Holland. I actually grew up there, although I've pretty much adjusted to the desert climate by now.

  4. Your garden's doing great, Renee. You have a Clematis! And it's blooming! I haven't had success with them here and keep thinking I should try again as I love them (almost as much as peonies, which present similar problems for me). That Centaurea is beautiful too - I planted 3 specimens last year but they've yet to bloom for me.

  5. Oh my, what a lot of lovely blooms! It's always so interesting to see what's blooming in a zone so much farther south than I. I'm not familiar with a lot of these plants, though I have seen 'Hot Lips' on several Texas posts and have been rather envious of it. Thanks for visiting me, and Happy Bloom Day!

    1. 'Hot Lips' is fun, especially since it changes color (white/white with red/all red) as the temperatures go up and and down. Your garden was great as well! Thanks for visiting!

  6. So many beautiful sights! Does your yellow hesperaloe bloom as reliably as the regular pink/red? I bought a yellow one two years ago. It was in bloom when I bought it but has never flowered again. My others are in bloom 9 months of the year.

    1. I haven't had any issues with the yellow one blooming, although I have had some of the red/pink ones skip a year here and there. But you're right - most of the time they are very reliable bloomers! Thanks for visiting!
